With the holiday season right around the corner, many of us will be traveling more than usual to visit friends, family & loved ones. Picking out the perfect gifts is stressful enough, the last thing I want to stress about is what to pack.  Whether you are traveling with your own jewelry or bringing a piece of jewelry along with you as a gift, traveling with expensive pieces can be worrisome.  I have teamed up with Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company today to provide some tips on how to travel with your precious jewelry in a safe way!

First up, determine if you need to have it with you; your safest bet for expensive jewelry is to not travel with it. I know this is easier said than done, because we all like to add a little sparkle to our outfits, but if possible, just leave it home! If you must have a piece of jewelry with you, try to bring classic pieces that you can wear over and over again. This will limit the amount of jewelry that you travel with.

If you are flying: Once you check a bag, your luggage sees many people before making it back to you at the end of the flight. Fingers crossed your luggage never gets lost, but in the unfortunate case that it does, it is definitely best to keep anything of value with you at all times, jewelry included. Keep your jewelry in your purse or your carry on so you can keep an eye on it throughout your travels.

Packing Tip: I also always pack at least one days worth of clothing in my carry on, again, juuuust in case.

If you are staying in a hotel: Make sure you use the safe for your jewelry and valuables. Leaving it out on the counter or in your suitcase is careless. Whether you are in the room or not, if you are not wearing the jewelry, the room's safe is the next best place for your valuables, jewelry especially.

Always: Insure your pieces prior to traveling.  No matter how careful you are with your jewelry, accidents happen. That's why there's jewelry insurance. When you have a keepsake or piece of jewelry that means the world to you, insuring your piece with Jewelers Mutual is a must do. With your jewelry insured, you can travel this holiday season with no worries!
