Today I am sharing one of the summer's hottest swimwear trends: the one piece.  Formally known as the type of swimsuit that you wear when you want to cover up your body a little more, the latest one pieces are created with cut outs, open backs and high cut legs proving these suits aren't all about more coverage.  Shopping for a bathing suit with the perfect fit can be tough, and finding a one piece that fits can seem nearly impossible.  I've rounded up a few tips to help you find your perfect one piece swimsuit, just in time for summer...

1. Self tan before you hit the beach for the first time.  There's nothing worse than pasty winter skin.  Combine that with any type of swimsuit and you're probably not gonna want to leave your bedroom.  I know I don't.  The first few times I put on a bathing suit (even in the dressing room), a little self tanner goes a long way.  It gives me back that glow that I had been missing, helps me contour away any problem areas and makes me feel more confident strutting my stuff in a bathing suit. (Check out my favorite self tanners here)

2. Know your body type.  My body shape is very boyish and straight up and down so I knew I would need a one piece that had some cutouts at the waist to help me fake some curves.  Do your research before you go shopping to figure out what type of suit will look best on you.  I have yet to see a black one piece with a v-neck and a bit of ruching at the waist look bad on anyone.

3. Shop online!!! If you're like me, you love the option of shopping in stores, trying on clothes, seeing the colors/patterns in person and touching the material, but bathing suits are the one item that I always order online.  Dressing room lighting can already be so unflattering and when you combine bathing suits with that, you may feel discouraged! I  relish the opportunity to try on my swimsuits in the comfort of my own room.  I can wear them around as long as I want, check myself out from different angles and dance in the mirror when I find a winning suit (anyone else??)

4. Don't forget the cover ups.  If you still don't feel 100% confident about walking around in your swimsuit, add a cover up or sarong of some type.  Denim shorts accentuated the open back and side cutouts of my one piece and a sarong was great for a walk on the beach.  (Cover ups under $100 coming soon to the blog if you all are interested...?)
