Man oh man, has it gotten hot all of a sudden. I think the temperatures hit 90 more than once in NYC last week without a breeze, it feels like you are melting the minute you step outside.  I always have the hardest time getting dressed on those scorching days - all I really want to wear is a bathing suit, but I have to get dressed for work, so what to wear? A structured but lightweight dress & some chic sandals is your answer.

Today's dress is from Talbots which admittedly, is a store I had not shopped at prior to a couple of weeks ago.  I was having a conversation with my mom recently about how we fall into a pattern of shopping at the same stores over & over again and boy it is true.  I have those few stores that I always stop into when I visit the mall and those same few websites that I always click to when I want to shop online.  I like to try out new trends each season, so why don't I shop at new stores based on what I'm looking for?   Talbots for example, is a site that I have been missing out on for great wear to work pieces! The homepage alone included effortlessly stylish summer dresses, lots of classic work day styles as well as trendy casual styles, including chambray (my favorite!).

This dress is the perfect wear to work piece for those hottest summer days.  The flower pattern and collared style make it appropriate for the office while the movement of the fabric & sleeveless style will keep you cool.  Also , the snap up front and drawstring waist make the dress super flattering! I paired it with a low heeled sandal and my largest tote - which held not only my lunch for the day but also a sweater that I could wrap around my shoulders when the AC started blasting in my office.

Other ideas for warm weather work day looks include: anything linen (blazers, wide leg pants, etc.) the lightweight fabric is perfect for soaring temps; peep toe shoes (a great alternative if you don't want to wear a full on sandal), or an a-line skirt with a button down blouse (similar to my dress - this look is comfortable and breezy!).
