styling birkenstocks for fall

Following Labor Day usually means the official start to fall fashion, but it is still SO hot in New York that I can't imagine wearing boots or sweaters just yet.  A long sleeve, striped dress paired with my Birkenstock sandals are perfect for transitioning weather.

I love the classic pattern of stripes all year round, so this week, we want to see how you style stripes in the Start The Week Stylish link up!

I always triple check my outfit in the mirror when I'm wearing my Birkenstocks since they have the ability to go from street style cool to 70's hippie very quickly.  Since owning them, I have figured out 3 foolproof ways to wear Birkenstocks and always look instantly cool:

adding a pop of color to a striped look

Monochrome- My Birkenstocks are black leather, so keeping the entire look black makes the look sleek and downtown.  I love the white leather pair too and think they would look awesome paired with an all white look (YES, I am encouraging white after Labor Day!) Plus, recently I am seeing Birkenstocks in colors like red and navy, which would look super cool paired with monochromatic shades.
Bohemian - Paired with a maxi dress and a felt hat, Birkenstocks add a perfectly boho touch to your look.  Just make sure to keep the peace signs and tie dye to a minimum so your look is modern, not dated.
Patterns - Like I am today, a simple pattern like a striped dress or leopard top can take these casual sandals up a notch.  I like to add some color with a bright bag or statement jewelry to keep the look trendy.
